Manchester City have confirmed that Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2027.
The 53-year-old’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season, and there were widespread rumors that he could leave alongside director of football and close friend Txiki Begiristain, whose departure was confirmed last month last.
Instead, Guardiola is staying and will now work with Begiristain’s replacement, Hugo Viana, who is leaving Sporting CP.
Guardiola was appointed City manager in 2016 following hugely successful spells in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. He continued this dominance at the Etihad Stadium, winning 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.
The deal means the tactician will be in charge of City for 10 seasons. By comparison, he spent just seven years combined at the Camp Nou and Allianz Arena.
Guardiola’s contract is not expected to include a break clause should City be relegated from the Premier League in the event he is found guilty of financial wrongdoing.
The club’s trial with the Premier League over 115 charges of alleged financial violations is ongoing.
